Jeremy was asking me two weeks ago when I would create another beauteous blog post. I don't know why he asks- he's caught up on my life on an hourly basis as it is.
I completed the Shelter Medicine elective and only took two cats home. One was a kitten who died 3 days after I took him home. He just...faded away. While purring. Yes, I cried.
The next I had to take because of destiny. We were at one of the shelters with the highest turnover (few things survive past a month). There was a very sweet mama kitty there who had been there for two weeks already. All her kittens were "gone" (I don't know if that means to Heaven or homes). Everyone told me I had to take her, because that other one had died. I went in and inquired about her and the shelter manager said, "Oh, you mean Joy? She's such a sweet cat but no one wants adults.". And I was like, "Joy. Her name is JOY? Surely this is meant to be!". Of course, my other three cats hate her with a burning passion which has necessitated her moving to the outside. Once outside, my kindly neighbors called Animal Control to come pick up this strange cat with a collar that was hanging out by the pool, disturbing their tans. Once retrieved from the shelter, I put my name on her collar. Not two hours after I did that, I got two calls about her from people in my apartment complex.
Seriously guys, she's fine. She has a collar on. It's going to be okay.
I don't think Dr. Bushby really liked me or my surgical performance during Shelter Medicine. I don't want to check my grade. He's a very intimidating person also. At least I know I don't want to go into surgery.
Next up was Externship 1: All Creatures Animal Care Clinic. For three works I would work and be continually quizzed for the chance at picking up real world experience. And really, it was a very nice place and I had a great time! The office manager, Mr. Montgomery, would not think of letting me stay at the clinic alone on that little cot so he invited me to stay with his lovely family! They are so awesome and I really loved staying with them!
